Dear Colleague,
ZEIBEKIKO AND ZEYBEK DANCE CONCERT
Website: www.geocities.com/ZeibekikoConference
I write to inform you of a rather special CONCERT OF GREEK AND TURKISH
MUSIC to be held at SOAS on the night of Saturday 30 June.
The concert will feature musics, songs and dances associated with the
traditional Zeibekiko dance of Greece and the Zeybek dances of Turkey.
In the first half we have three baglama musicians travelling from Turkey -
one of Turkey's leading instrumentalists, OKAN MURAT ÖZTÜRK [Samsun],
together with ALI FUAT AYDIN [Izmir] and CENK GÜRAY [Ankara]. This will
follow a short film, "The Voice of Zeibekiko", made by director CHRISTOS
PROSSYLIS.

The second half will be a programme of Greek Rebetiko songs played by the
SOAS REBETIKO BAND, and featuring a special presentation by KALIA
BAKLITZANAKI (vocals), CAHIT BAYLAV (violin) and PEYMAN HEYDARIAN
(santouri). There will also be dancers from Greece and Turkey.
This is going to be a great night. As usual, admission to the concert is
free, but we shall take a bucket collection to cover expenses. If you can
afford £5 that would be nice, but if not, then whatever...
