Changing Conceptions of Scientific Change
June 22nd 12-6 p.m.
Division of History and Philosophy of Science, University of Leeds
(together with Department of Science and Technology Studies,
University College London)
The notion of scientific change sits at the heart of the history and
philosophy of science. How should it be characterised? Does it
proceeds incrementally or through revolutions? What impact should it
have on the realism debate? These are just some of the questions that
historians and philosophers of science face in their teaching and
research.
The aim of this workshop is to bring historians and philosophers
together to consider how our understanding of this notion has changed
over the past thirty years in particular, and how that change in
understanding has been informed by changes in the history,
historiography and philosophy of science.
The workshop is open to all in the HPS community but we would
particularly welcome postgraduates and postdoctoral scholars in the
field.
