medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
John Dillon wrote:
Today (4. June) is the feast day of:
1) Quirinus of Siscia (d. 308). Q. was bishop of Siscia (today's Sisak in
Croatia; in Hungarian, Sziszek), martyred under Galerius late in the Great
Persecution. ...
It is to be added: Quirinus is represented on silver reliquiarium from
Gradus (it. Grado), originally in the church of Aquileia from 5th century.
There are represented Christ, Petrus and Paulus, and five saints: Quirinus
from Siscia, Latinus from Rome, and three from Aquileia (Cantius, Cantianus
and Cantianilla). It is to believe, that in the 5th century his cult was
present in Aquileia. Matej
