ULRLS archival database - a new resource for researchers
The University of London Research Library Services (ULRLS), which
comprises Senate House Library and the libraries of the School of
Advanced Study, has spent the past 18 months developing an electronic
catalogue for archives and manuscripts. Our new ADLIB database
complements the descriptions of printed books, periodicals and other
publications on the libraries' Innopac catalogue and makes descriptions
of more than 2,000 unique collections searchable online in one place for
the first time.
The range of material listed on the catalogue is extraordinarily
diverse, covering many different aspects of world history and culture
over more than 1,000 years. More than 10% of the collections include a
significant amount of material in Romance languages. Notable archives
held at Senate House Library include papers concerning religion and
upper class society in Spain between the late 14th and mid 19th
centuries, in the Eliot-Phelips collections, and material on economics
and finance in western Europe since the early modern period, much of it
acquired with the Goldsmiths' Library of Economic Literature. A large
collection of 20th century pamphlets and other materials produced by
Latin American political parties, trade unions and pressure groups is
held at the Institute for the Study of the Americas. ULRLS holdings of
published material in Romance languages, including rare books and other
items unavailable elsewhere in the UK, are described on the main library
catalogue.
The ULRLS archives and manuscripts catalogue was launched officially on
Thursday 31 May 2007, and is available online for researcher
consultation at: http://archives.ulrls.lon.ac.uk/.
