MEMENTO.
(The people breath, like, BACKWARDS!)
Seriously: an absolutely major essay is by Australian writer Ross
Gibson is in the book about performance in cinema, FALLING FOR YOU,
eds. Lesley Stern and George Kouvaros (Power Publications, Sydney): he
brilliantly analyses a scene from Welles' LADY FROM SHANGAHI (the
aquarium scene) to show it is constructed upon the rhythm and mechanics
of breath - and linking film to spectator in this rhythm. There is no
better essay on this topic.
