Apologies for another PhD-studentship advert...
Apparently there's some confusion over the stipends for ESRC CASE awards.
I'll clarify that the two on offer at Hull geography are paid at £14,300pa
plus £2,000pa contribution from the partner organisation.
If you're looking for a fully-funded PhD place, further details are below:
TWO ESRC CASE STUDENTSHIPS (+3), Department of Geography, University of Hull
1. Effective policy intervention in establishing sustainable local food
systems (collaborating body: East Riding of Yorkshire Council).
The research will examine the effectiveness of policy interventions at
different scales for establishing and supporting local food systems. It
focuses on the work of East Riding of Yorkshire Council where recent
initiatives have sought to develop a local food sector aimed at emergent
markets for high-quality foods. The project will also develop an
international comparison with an Italian region to which it is related
through the EU LEADER rural development programme. The research will
therefore involve periods of fieldwork in Italy as well as in the UK. We
anticipate that additional time and funding will be available to those
requiring language training.
Informal enquiries to Lewis Holloway ([log in to unmask]), David Gibbs
([log in to unmask]), or David Atkinson ([log in to unmask])
2. The new ecologies of risk: promoting economic development and the
management of flood risk in the Humber (collaborating body: the Environment
Agency)
This project will examine the governance of estuary sites as authorities
seek to reconcile promoting economic development, flood risk management,
and protecting an area of international conservation value. It will
investigate how different parties use, dispute or otherwise work with
scientific and technical understandings of flood risk. The research will
explore how policies in this area are negotiated and implemented.
Informal enquiries to Graham Haughton ([log in to unmask]), Sally Eden
([log in to unmask]) or David Gibbs ([log in to unmask]).
Closing date for both positions: 15th June 2007
