In response to Peter Hudson concerning stability of serum stored in a
refrigerator for protein electrophoresis - we have recently completed a
study of BD and Greiner SST tubes including stability of analytes over a
seven day period. We only looked at serum electrophoresis and not
immunofixation. We found there to be no significant change in serum
electrophoresis analyte levels (Total protein, albumin, alpha 1 globulin,
alpha 2 globulin, beta globulin and gamma globulin)from day 1 of testing to
day 7 of storage (2-8 degrees C). Significant change was defined as our
usual standard deviation X 2.8.
