The RSS 2007 Conference at the University of York in July is promising
to be a busy and exciting event. The conference theme of 'Statistics and
public policy-making' has proved a popular choice with nearly 200 papers
- either plenary, invited, contributed or poster - accepted for
presentation across a wide range of topics including epidemics,
medicine, health policy, cost-effectiveness, trust in statistics,
primary health care, data confidentiality, randomised trials in policy
and evidence synthesis.
With speakers including Jack Straw MP, Adrian Smith, Peter Hennessy,
Denise Lievesley, Dennis Gillings, Sir David Cox, Sheila Bird, Sir Ian
Kennedy, Sir Michael Rawlins, Christl Donnelly, Tony O'Hagan, David
Spiegelhalter and Alysson Pollock, there are sure to be plenty of
thought-provoking debates in sessions, over lunch and later in the bar!
The evenings during conference week will see delegates sampling
hospitality at some distinctive local venues, including a boat trip on
the river Ouse, a reception at the Castle Museum, and the conference
dinner at York Racecourse. In between there will be an evening wine
reception for viewing the poster presentations followed by a barbecue
and ceilidh.
