I rather agree with George., it is a useful source of information and
doesn't do any harm surely?
Do we now have to get into a debate as to where commercialism begins and
ends?

Subject: Commercial postings on lis-pub-libs
It sounds as if someone is unhappy with 'commercial' postings - what a
pity.
I have used this list for many years, posting on a range of topics from
a purely professional point of view as well as commercially, and have
never felt that the list has been compromised or dominated by commercial
postings.
Indeed I have often felt that range of postings has enhanced the list's
role as a source of information about the very latest news of interest
to public libraries.
One might also ask what is commercial? Would that definition include
postings about forthcoming conferences and seminars?
I ask this because I have posted on a couple of occasions about the free
stock management seminars which are currently being offered by Bridgeall
libraries. The seminars are genuinely free (indeed provision is made of
a free lunch for attendees)and cover a range of practical issues
involved in considering and possible adopting, the Evidence based stock
management methodology outlined in Update in December 2006. The only
commercial element is the opportunity taken to showcase, very briefly,
Bridgeall's new SmartSM service.
For information, 19 of these seminars have now been held all over the
UK, attended by some 300 representatives from almost 100 public library
services.
In case this sort of posting is terminated in the future, may I take
this opportunity to remind those services who have not attended so far,
that Bridgeall is continuing with the offer but only up to 30th November
this year - so this may be your last chance to attend something which
has been extremely well received by the vast majority of previous
attendees.
If you are interested, just check with your neighbours, since we need 4
interested authorities to make the seminars cost effective.

I do hope this is not too commercial for list subscribers!
