The University of Bradford offers 4 full-time studentships for its course
__MSc in Archaeological Prospection – Shallow Geophysics__
starting in September 2007. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone
interested in a career in archaeological geophysics (either
professionally or for research), or simply wanting to further their
understanding of this subject (beyond Time Team's "geofizz" approach).
These prestigious NERC studentships are available to UK students (full
studentships) and EU students (full studentship if resident for three
years, or fees-only).
Further information and an online application form can be found at
http://www.brad.ac.uk/acad/archsci/depart/pgrad/arcpros/
Applications should be submitted as soon as possible - don't wait and
apply now!
The one-year taught Masters course provides training in the underlying
principles and applications of archaeological prospection techniques,
with particular emphasis on geophysical survey for shallow features
(e.g. magnetic, earth resistance, ground penetrating radar). In addition
to gaining a formal qualification in this discipline, the
long-established course offers an ideal opportunity to acquire in-depth
understanding of fundamental issues related to instrument usage, data
processing and archaeological data interpretation.
The University’s Division of Archaeological, Geographical and
Environmental Sciences, is ideally equipped to deliver the course with a
large number of geophysical instruments for student use (including GPR),
excellent teaching facilities and academic staff who are experts in the
field.
Archaeological Prospection can also be studied at MPhil and PhD level.
Individual research topics can be tailored to the applicants’ interests
and funding applications, for example to the AHRC, are supported by
dedicated staff.
If you would like to know more about the course please do not hesitate
to contact the Postgraduate Secretary, Mrs Jane Hammond
