medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Jim
I'm sure you have these, but just in case, there are accounts of
liturgical matters at Hereford (with references) in Aylmer, G and
Tiller, J (eds) 2000 Hereford cathedral: a history, Hambledon;
particularly Harper, J 2000 'Music and liturgy, 1300-1600'(375-97) and
Caldwell, John, 'Music before 1300' in the same volume.
Also, Julian Gardner 'The tomb of Bishop Peter of Aquablanca in Hereford
cathedral' in Whitehead, D (ed) 1995 Medieval art, architecture and
archaeology at Hereford' says that Bishop Aigueblanche (AKA Aquablanca)
exported the Use of Hereford to his collegiate foundation at
Aigueblanche in France (Savoie) in the 1250s - where it was followed
until the Council of Trent. A nice titbit in itself, that (there's
something about a liturgy from the green, but often rather damp, English
Marches being followed in the French sunshine that appeals to me) -- but
it raises the possibility that there may be Hereford-derived liturgical
information in Savoie to be followed up.

Just out of curiosity, In what "sense" do you mean that it did not
exist?
