Dear Colleague
Netskills will be running the following workshops at the University of Edinburgh in May:
1. Effective e-Learning with Moodle, 15th May
-----------------------------------------------------
The Moodle learning environment is becoming increasingly popular in the UK education sector. It is free to use, having been developed through the Open Software model, and is designed using sound pedagogical principles. This workshop introduces Moodle, its main features and demonstrates why Moodle is different from other learning environments.
You will be given access to your own installation of Moodle for 4 weeks after this workshop.
2. Communication and Collaboration for e-Learning, 16th May
-----------------------------------------------------
Communication and collaboration are key elements of the online learning process. Whilst many tools facilitate these activities, using them effectively requires careful design, planning and management.
This practical workshop will enable you to engage learners in collaborative learning through best use of the online environment.
3. Detecting & Deterring Plagiarism, 17th May
-----------------------------------------------------
The issue of plagiarism has been around for centuries, but its impact has escalated with the growth of the world wide web, with its vast range of content, easy opportunities for cut-and-paste, and growing market of commercial sites helping the potential plagiarist. The education sector has seen a significant increase in cases of plagiarism in recent years, with observers suspecting that many more cases go undetected and/or unreported.
While sophisticated online services can help with the detection of web-based plagiarism, long-term deterrence lies with appropriate course design and effective institutional policies.
4. Developing Problem Based e-Learning, 23rd May
-----------------------------------------------------
Fed up with passive, page turning e-learning? Engage your learners in active, dynamic, enquiry based e-learning by developing realistic problem solving activities that encourage the application of analytical, creative and critical thinking skills.
5. Mobile Learning: Education on Demand, 24th May
-----------------------------------------------------
M-Learning can free learners from the classroom and enable them to study wherever and whenever they choose. Organisations can adapt academic and administrative functions to suit the demands of their new audience: the mobile learner, already comfortable with smart phones, hand-held media devices and Personal Digital Assistants. However, what issues arise from such technologies? How suitable are they pedagogically and practically?
This workshop explores the principles and practice of m-Learning. It is for anyone who is interested in using mobile devices in education, or whose organisations already are, or those who simply wish to know more about the emerging technologies.
