This happened (probably in the 1130s) at Malmesbury abbey according to
William of Malmesbury, when bishop Roger of Salisbury stole some of the
churchyard for his own castle:
'Apud Malmesberiam in ipso cimiterio, ab aecclesia principali uix iactu
lapidis, castellum inchoauerat' [historia novella, OMT, ii.22]
