Thanks to everyone who replied to my speculative enquiry about interest
in an Ebsco user group. There have been about 25 responses, so it seems
there is some demand for this.
At Oxford Brookes we use Ebsco's a-to-z service, LinkSource, EJS and
many of their databases. We are often contacting them about problems
which must also be affecting other libraries. For example in the past
few weeks I have raised issues concerning errors in the content of
packages listed on a-to-z, journal issues missing from EJS, LinkSource
not working well with particular databases and the use of wildcard
characters on Ebsco databases. Other libraries will be raising similar
concerns so combining these queries would seem to be a good idea.
Two alternatives were very helpfully suggested to the list. I have
never used the Ebsco UK customer services forum but have now requested a
username and password. The Ebsco enhancement group of JIBS sounds
interesting as a way of advising on product development but I wonder if
it would cover all the issues listed above. I feel an email list would
be the best format, with maybe an informal meeting at the UKSG conference.
I will contact Ebsco to let them know of the interest and will see what
their response is. Possibly like others who replied, I am keener to
join a group than form one, so if anyone would like to take this
forward, that would be great.
Regards
Janet Frost
