I was on a couple of sites in London where we had knucklebone floors and Ive
looked at some leatherdressers' waste as well. I think that the knucklebone
floors were created from the tawyers' waste and indicate the presence of the
leatherdressing industry in the vicinity. Three examples from London were
all constructed with the distal articulations forming the surface rather
than the proximal articulations. A couple of references are below, the third
is not yet published. As well as the metapodials there may be structural
evidence and things like barrel-lined pits are good evidence of the
industry.
