medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
I have a question pertaining to the details of public preaching outside the confines of a church space. When a mendicant takes upon himself the right to preach, does he require any form of legal or written endorsement from the main establishment in late medieval England and France? I am especially trying to situate this in the context of late medieval England during the Lollard movement, in which men and women take upon themselves the right to preach and live the apostolic life outside of church confines or established monastic rules.
