medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
I was surprised to learn that this saint, of whom I'd never heard, is a
patron of artists. When I looked her up on the patron saints website, I
discovered she was "buried without a coffin or embalming," and is also a
patron against temptations. Any ideas about the why's and wherefore's of the
above? The lack of embalming I get, but no coffin? Were coffins unusual at
her time?
