Sandwell libraries will be replacing their Special Needs Mobile (26ft long)
with a brand new mobile library, but with a difference!
The Special Needs mobile library provides a closed access service for older
people living in sheltered housing and residential care. We want to reach
an even greater no. of people who for whatever reason cannot or are not
confident in using library buildings.
We'd like to know whether any mobile libraries have taken a closed access
targeted approach to successfully reach and engage specific groups, e.g.
children, adults and families, into reading and using the library service.
- How are the target groups identified?
- Is this a timetabled service, or are visits block booked for a
period of time
- What type of activity is delivered by library staff to get these
groups hooked into the reading habit and using libraries?
- Is this activity delivered on the mobile library or inside the
community venue?
- Do outreach library staff work in conjunction with the outreach
mobile library service or do they work independently to a different
outreach work programme?
Sandwell's new mobile library will be smaller in size and will be equipped
with 3G mobile technologies and a book trolley.
I will summarise all responses for the list.
Thanks.
