We use initials because of data protection issues, although this means we have to write holdslips by hand. Patrons do ask "is this book for me?" but mostly they know what they have on hold. We are looking into using Innovative's custom hold slips together with the patron alias feature but we don't know yet if we're legally able to. A possible solution is to somehow create aliases for all patrons at once. Not quite sure how though.

Has anyone tried the new patron alias feature in Release 2006 to overcome this
problem? See the User manual #107130.
