Hi all,
I apologise if this has been covered I've only just read Andrew and Mike's responses and I see there are other mails I haven't
read, but, Psychoanalysis is not psychology and we might argue has little to do with it and certainly is not in competition with
it. As far as I understand modern psychology was largely initiated by fledgling cold war warriors intent on fighting and indulging
in something called mind control, brain washing etc as was not seen as a philosophical or interpretive discourse. There is no
doubt that cognitive psychology has had an effect on film studies especially through the work of Bordwell, but it generally serves
as a descriptive rather than interpretive function. Nothing wrong with that, but of a different character to the work of people
such as Copjec, Zizek, Adams, Samuels etc.
