I find it amusing that, just as I am beginning to understand and
appreciate the relationship and influence of Freudian Psychoanalysis
on cinema there is so much talk of it being superseded, outmoded,
eclipsed by cognitivist theory etc.. !
Haukur makes a good point, there is something more romantic about
Freudianisms in film.
Scientific flaws included, this surely still has some value?
Also I wanted to mention the documentaries of Adam Curtis, who's
latest series The Trap: What happened to our Freedom? This might be of
interest to some as they highlight psychoanalysis' influence on public
policies and governing. Curtis also made a series on Freud's
permeating influence on modern society, called The Century of the
Self, which I have posted on my blog here http://edwinmak.com/?p=169
I'm learning so much in this Salon.. keep it up everyone and thanks!
