Enough of the Zizek and Derrida docos! There is a whole, trashy world
of (fictive) philosophers-on-film clearly not dreamt of by the
philosophers on this list!
For example, the Australian thriller GROSS MISCONDUCT, early '90s,
which I once synopsised thus:
"Justin (Jimmy Smits) lectures on the Greek philosophy of love and
student Jennifer (an early role for Naomi Watts) goes out of her mind
with desire. After their sexual liaison takes place, a murder occurs,
Jennifer develops amnesia, and Justin is pegged as the prime suspect."
And then there's a the terrific example of James Toback's HARVARD MAN
('98), in which Joey Lauren Adams does several great philo-lecture
scenes before the crime-and-sex-and-drugs plot kicks in.
Student-teacher thrills once again: it is the true mark of philosophy
in film!
And where's the Jean-Claude Brisseau fan club? NOCE BLANCHE (also early
'90s) is another 'politically incorrect' student-teacher special, with
Vanessa Paradis and some craggy old guy who teaches philosophy in the
lycee.
There are dozens of movies like these. Get out into those $2 video
sell-offs and find them, especially if you are tried of watching docos
about Zizek!!
