The best film explicitly based on theory is Alain Resnais Mon Oncle
d'Amerique. The narration is framed by the comments of Skinner-like
experimental sociologist Henri Laborit. I guess, the theory itself is not
brilliant, but the film finds a specific, suggestive structure in secretly
contradicting the materialist theory, though I am not sure whether the film
can be understood as a parody of materialism (Resnais is constantly dealing
with the subject of determinism and free will). Mon Oncle d'Amerique reaches
its peak in the scenes where the protagonist are turned into rats
themselves. The whole film is turned into an experiment, but unlike Laborit
you don't know what's the outcome.
Herbert.
