Many thanks to Henry, Robby, Ross, Patrick, Warren and Boris for your
generous suggestions!
My own intuition is perhaps closer to considering where does semiotics
departs from in terms of film analysis, and try to walk a few steps
backwards. My interest is essentially to see what options remain if we
take a pre-linguistic approach that goes slower in considering film a
coded medium, and focuses longer on the (ontological perhaps...)
cinematic quality of human experience per se.
But this is still a long way from making sense, i know, so i'll follow
your bibliographical lead and give intuition a rest for this initial
stage.
Meanwhile, this discussion seems to have taken off on its own, which i
find thoroughly compelling. Thank you also, Michael and Hrvoje!
Hope to come back to this thread soon with further inquiries and
questions,
Best wishes,
Eduardo
