Dear Film-Philosophers,
I'm trying to write my PhD project:
the representation of the proletariat/the masses/the people by/for the
proletariat/the masses/the people in cinema, according to the evolution of the
concept of <proletariat> troughout the history of the cinema and its technical
developpment.
I would like of course to take attention to the soviet cinema as well as the
mainstream representation of the proletariat/masses in american cinema (from
THE CROWD to SALT OF THE EARTH through THE ANIMAL FARM and some of the NEWS
REEL episodes) to the <cinema militant> of the 70's in France/Germany/Italy
made by workers (like the LIP movies), the avant-guarde films made in the name
of the people (the Cinéthique's) up to demonstration and blackblock movies
filmed with a cell-phone uploaded on yourtube.
I would be very grateful for any advice regarding:
# the filmography
# any litterature on the subject
# philosophical/historical litterature (I'll work on Jacques Ranciere at first)
# the project in general
many thanks in advance,
Pierre-Emmanuel Finzi
