Subject: University of Ulster MATCH Programme Survey
As a researcher within the Multidisciplinary Assessment of Technology
Centre for Healthcare (MATCH) programme based at the University of Ulster I
am contacting you regarding some current work related to a survey of users
of point of care technologies. I attach a brief introduction about the
MATCH programme and some of the the current work undertaken.
Briefly the MATCH programme (http://www.match.ac.uk/index.jsp) is a five
year collaboration between five UK universities, funded by the EPSRC/DTI
and is largely concerned with the health technology assessment of medical
devices and health technologies to determine their value to improving
healthcare delivery, decision making and outcomes. Much of this work
involves health economics, cost effectiveness analysis and user perspective
studies.
The group based at the University of Ulster, led by Professor Brian Meenan
has a particular interest in assessing the impact of new and emerging
healthcare technologies on healthcare delivery. This is based around a
number of technology exemplar studies, one of these is lab-on-chip point of
care technologies used for cardiac marker testing during rapid chest pain
assessment. Currently MATCH is conducting an on line survey of UK
healthcare professionals, to garner their views and opinions on the value
and benefits of this technology compared against laboratory based
diagnosis. This survey has already commenced within Northern Ireland health
Trusts, but is being extended to other regions of the UK.
In order to obtain an overall balanced view of the impact of this
technology, MATCH seeks the views of a wide range of healthcare
professionals including clinicians, specialists, nursing staff, pathology,
laboratory personnel and ambulance-paramedic staff.
My enquiry is to ask whether it would be possible for MATCH to obtain a
representative view from a number of members of the Association for
Clinical Biochemistry on the value of cardiac point of care technologies.
The survey does not seek any personal or clinical data and can be completed
anonymously. The survey form may be accessed on the MATCH website at
http://www.match.ac.uk/poct/index.jsp and takes between 10-15 minutes to
complete. The information will be used in a peer reviewed publication
appraising the value of cardiac point of care technologies from the user
perspective and copies will be subsequently available to all participants
via the MATCH website. Perhaps you could let me know whether it might be
possible to add an information link to the University of Ulster MATCH
programme point of care survey on your website for your members.
In the meantime, should you require any further information or
clarification about MATCH or the current survey, please contact me below.
