The Museum of the History of Science, Oxford, is holding a 'Clockfest' on
Saturday 10 March, 10 am to 5 pm - 'A day to celebrate clocks and
watches'. Along with talks and family activities, visitors are encouraged
to bring in watches and clocks (or photographs of clocks) for expert
opinion and assessment. Leading national experts in the field can be
consulted in the 'clock surgery' and 'ask the expert' sessions. David
Thompson will be there from the British Museum and Jonathan Betts from the
Royal Observatory, Greenwich. In addition - and this is a daring departure
from the norm - we will have two experts from Bonhams, London, James
Stratton (head of the clocks department) and Paul Maudsley (head of
watches), who will be able to give valuations. Public museums in Britain
do not offer valuations, so we will make it clear that there are given on
behalf of Bonhams.
