Morning
I was hoping for some lively debate on the DoH document "Health Clearance
for tuberculosis, hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV: New healthcare
workers", but there doesn't seem to be any so perhaps I can start some off?
The main change to practice this document appears to bring is the offer of
HIV and Hepatitis C to all new staff, of course if they are not doing EPP
then the offer of a post is not affected regardless of results.
I'm not sure what the uptake of such an offer would be, and there's many
issues here, not least the increase in costs to undertake testing but one
question I'd like views on is if we ask about HIV exposure and Hepatitis C
exposure on the pre-employment questionnaire do we then need to only offer
testing to those identified as being 'at risk'?
I feel this would not be sufficient as the individual may lie or genuinely
not be aware of any such exposure, so in essence could we be missing the
opportunity to offer testing to those who really need it?
This does appear to be mainly an NHS issue and I'd welcome comments and
thoughts on this. Is there anyone already undertaking such testing or
offers of??
Regards
Glenn
