medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Bynum's book is called wondrous Blood. It mentions the issues about Jews frequently, but (at least by the point I have reached) that is not the focus. Bynum is more concerned with the Christian fascination with Blood.

Incidentally, I found the historiographical analysis offered by David Nirenberg
of the interpretations of Jewish-Christian conflcit to be illuminating:
Nirenberg, D., Communities of Violence: Persecution of Minorities in the Middle
Ages, Princeton, Princeton University Press, 1996.
For the connection between Church reform and usury (and its repercussions for
the thinking about Jews), I found some insights on this in Southern's biography
of Grosseteste: Southern, R. W., Robert Grosseteste. The Growth of an English
Mind in Mediaeval Europe, Oxford, Clarendon Press, 1986.
As for the connection with accusations of host desecration, Caroline Walker
Bynum recently wrote a book on blood in the late Middle Ages. I received a copy
for review, but I sent it on to a friend, since I had enough on my plate
already. But I wonder if anyone has read it, and if there's anything on host
desecration in here, and the myth that Jews needed Christian blood (preferably
of Christian children) for their "unspeakable rituals". (I think the
terminology comes from Bernardino of Siena.)

Frans van Liere referred to:
Parkes, J., The Jew in the Medieval Community. A Study of His Political and
Economic Situation, New York, Hermon Press, 1976.
It should perhaps be mentioned that thix book by Parkes was originally
written in the thirties and published in 1938 - the edition cited is a reprint
of an
earlier work.
