CALL FOR PAPERS FOR PUBLICATION IN "THE ARCHAEOLOGY OF MESOAMERICAN ANIMALS", TO BE PUBLISHED BY CAMBRIDGE SCHOLARS PRESS, UK, EDITED BY CHRISTOPHER M. GÖTZ AND KITTY F. EMERY
Dear Colleagues,
Zooarchaeology is increasingly an important part of archaeological studies in Mesoamerica. In response to growing interest in this field, we have been approached to edit a comprehensive, peer-reviewed volume to be published by the Cambridge Scholars Press, UK (http://www.cambridgescholarspress.com), about the archaeology of animals used by prehispanic Mesoamerican and Central American cultures. The book will be designed to cover the zooarchaeology of ancient Mesoamerica and Central America in a broad geographical and chronological sense, presenting in a single publication the different aspects of animal use in through time by the indigenous populations of the entire region.
We invite submissions of research, theoretical, and overview papers related to Mesoamerican zooarchaeology. We geographically define Mesoamerica -in a slightly broader sense than did Kirchhoff- as including the region from the northern borders with the southern United States to southern or lower Central America. We also define the time frame of the publication broadly to include themes covering the earliest human occupation, the Preclassic, Classic, Postclassic, and Colonial manifestations, and recent times as these reveal aspects of archaeological interest through ethnographic and ethnoarchaeological studies.
If you are interested in participating in this edited volume, please send us a short note expressing your interest, including an abstract of approx. 100 words and the approximate title of your planned paper until the 15th of April 2007. We would be very pleased to receive your proposals.
Yours sincerely,
Christopher M. Götz (Facultad de Ciencias Antropológicas, Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán; Mérida, Yucatán, México) [log in to unmask]
and
Kitty F. Emery, PhD. (Environmental Archaeology, Florida Museum of Natural History; Gainesville, Florida, USA) [log in to unmask]
