Hi,
I am applying for a PhD Studentship, and am unable to gain access to
the ATHENS databases to check my chosen topic, as I am not currently
a student or academic staff (I used to be a researcher at
Loughborough's Transport Study Group)
My proposed topic is "Societal barriers to more sustainable transport
choices" and I was wondering if there has been a lot of research in
this area so far. I have come across several references from the
CILT's journal search service and on Google Scholar, but have not
been able to do a "Web of Science" type search, or check the Index of
Theses.
Is it important to check these at this stage (I am worried about the
proposed topic already having been covered by another thesis, or
collectively by work elsewhere), or is it sufficient for the
studentship application to provide knowledge of the broader subject
area and my research skills?
Thanks
