The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering of the University of
Auckland, New Zealand is inviting applications for the above position.
This opportunity arises due to a need to strengthen the University’s
contribution to the road (and industrial) pavement sector of New
Zealand’s infrastructure. This position is being jointly financially
supported by Works Infrastructure Limited (Works) and the University.
The appointee, who will have a doctorate in engineering will be required
to develop and teach Departmental courses in pavement and related
materials engineering, both at under-graduate and graduate levels. The
initiation of a research programme in an appropriate area of pavement
structure and pavement materials engineering will be expected, and will
be encouraged. Central to the course is the applicability of material
taught in design and construction.
Expertise in two main areas is particularly desirable (i) _pavement
analysis and design_ with particular emphasis on the pavement structure,
surface treatments and their maintenance (This includes preventive and
rehabilitative techniques) as well awareness of as pavement management
systems, wider asset management, highway geometrics, drainage and
construction. (ii) _pavement materials, _including bound and unbound
aggregates, and the opportunity for marginal/recycled materials. Water
susceptibility of material properties is an important consideration.
