medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Bangladesh & Calcutta were one province under the British. The people
were all Bangla. They all speak a Sanskrit derived language called
Bangla. During partition West Pakisthan and East Pakisthan were
created to break away from Hindu India, a nutty arrangement that was
bound to lose since the Pakisthani were all Hindu/Muslim and speak the
same language Urdu/Hindi. SOOO, the only thing the Bangla (East
Pakisthan) had in common the there Muslim coreligionists in Wast
Pakisthan, was Islam, and to boot, they were econonomically dominated
by West Pakisthan. So, they broke a way, had their little war and
declared their independence under the name Bangla Desh (Desh=Land),
"Land of the Bangla." This has nothing to do with the original
subject but it is the first opportunity I have had to say anything
about it. I used to live in Calcutta. Oh, yeah. And white is the
color of death, there, too. yrs, tom ault
