medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
"Apparently a fairly common phenomenon. I found it among children I worked with
when I was working with hearing impaired children. "
I´m curious about the nature of communication used by Jesus with hearing impaired children.
Did He (for example) speak / communicate more clearly than others?
Did his messages support or undercut e.g. parental authority, or were they on unrelated topics?
We have a film in our library called "Ossian, boy monk" about a child who announced at age 4 that he
wanted to be a monk. His parents took him to Nepal, where he was eventually recognized as
a reincarnation. . .
Of course, many children have "invisible friends" (my sister had "houses" of different colors
she referred to on occasion.) Whatever we may think of the accuracy of such stories in supernatural terms,
it is useful for those investigating hagiographical texts to be aware of comparable material,
and its potential for incorporation in hagiographic narrative.
Has anyone mentioned Joan of Arc yet? How old was she when she saw her saints?
