medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
I am describing a pew-end which depicts a jester or fool. The current
churchwardens were taught that he was a reference to something which Erasmus wrote
about only a fool being able to be a Christian. Something to do with
innocence I suppose?
Can anyone give me a proper quote on this, please? I have no access just
now to his works, and no idea where to begin; and of course I need it quickly.
Many thanks, as ever.
Susan
