One of the reasons that global warming may seem to have speeded up is
the reduction in dimming, particularly in those areas where action
has been taken on pollution such as Europe and the US.
What is ironic is that we in the UK claim to have stabilized our
carbon footprint when actually what we've done is move to consuming
goods from high polluting manufacturers in India, China and
elsewhere, rather than consuming goods that are inevitably more
expensive made in better (environmentally) regulated markets. The
UK's true carbon footprint has almost certainly got HUGELY worse over
the last decade.
I'd like to see journalists put this to some of our more smug and
smooth talking ministers.
There are some competing values here, each of which has some
legitimacy. It may take some debate and some time to resolve.
