Perhaps, but for most the point of developing ideas and theories is
(eventually) to guide action.
Newton's physics of motion is wrong, but good enough for most day to
day planning.
Einstein's physics will turn out to be wrong in some area, but it's
allowed us to take further huge steps.
Evolutionary biology, genetic variation, and natural selection have
the potential to affect bacteriology and other areas of human
activity quite rapidly.
Science is a process of revelation. Whether or not one believes in
God it would be strange to deny the fascination and wonder of that.
