I understand "Nurse practitioner" is an informal title and does not
carry any particular level of qualification or accreditation, unlike
ANP. We should consider whether RGN or ANP is the level at which nurses
should be entitled to sign certificates. Any nurse here who have a view?
Does the RCN have a policy? Or maybe we should be proposing a
"registered healthcare professional" - this would bring in a number of
different professions but note that they would only be eligible if they
were responsible for the care of the patient so it would not be
appropriate eg for a paramedic to certify if only seen once en route to
the hospital.
This would be in line with the modernisation of the work force, APMS,
different ways of working and all that. Would also go some way towards
demonstrating support for the notion that all healthcare professionals
are indistinguishable.
