Dear List Members,
As promised, I attach the list for our first sale of surplus volumes
from the Kipling Library. This was published on 31st January, and
initially circulated to members who had asked for it. It is now opened
to the Jiscmail list.
All orders will be reserved, and where necessary I will arrange to
draw lots for items. This seems the fairest method, since I am working
through email and the postal system, with many members in fairly
remote places (remote from the centre of all things - in Kent, that
is).
You may remember that, in a recent article in the Journal, I advised
the use of meta-search engines such as usedbooksearch.co.uk, to hunt
for books worldwide. As I am not a bookseller (and have to find some
time to work for a living), I have used this facility, over several
months, to try to set fair prices for the list. I have also relied on
advice from members and real antiquarian booksellers.
There will still be questions about these valuations, and I can only
point to the huge
range of prices suggested by professionals, for identical volumes on
line. Please object, if you can offer evidence of "like for like".
It should go without saying that a full refund is promised if a buyer
is not satisfied. I have also taken advice on postage and packing
charges, but any profit made on this will be returned to purchasers.
Please note the discount offered for members, and arrangements for
allowing time for claims to arrive from distant parts.
With best wishes,
John
