To Brian Diamond and Others Coming Across the Pond:
Delighted to have you for the Kipling Exhibition at Yale. It will be
opening in New Haven on June 1, and you will arrive just as the first
Yale College reunion classes are departing on the prior Sunday (my own
reunion class meeting is the following weekend). If we get a few folks
coming from the UK to visit New Haven on the same day (June 4 or 5), I
will trek up to New Haven (about an hour and 15 mins from NYC by train)
and give you a curator's tour myself. The catalogue is now being
designed at the Yale University Press, and will be a fairly substantial
record of the show, with many items in photographs.

I have arranged to be in New Haven on June 4-5 to see the exhibitions
mentioned below, and I would be pleased to know if any other member
will also be there then so that we could meet up.

"Kipling Exhibition at Yale 2007": under this title, the Dec Journal,
pp 54-55 gave David Richards' overview . The Yale website confirms this
as : "Rudyard Kipling: The Books I Leave Behind " An exhibition curated
by David Alan Richards June 1 to September 15, 2007 This exhibition,
focusing on the life and works of Rudyard Kipling, a
writer who appealed to a vast audience ... is drawn principally from
the collection given to Yale by David Alan Richards (Yale College
'67; Yale Law School '72). While tracing the development of Kipling's
writings, the exhibition pays special attention to variant editions
and elusive printings of many of his rarest works, reflecting the
exhaustive research in Richards's recently published bibliography of
Kipling. [ca. 225 items]
And it gives detail of another exhibition:
"Collecting an Empire: The East India Company (1600-1900) "..This
exhibit brings together a diverse, multi-lingual range of Indian and
British objects, illuminated mythological manuscripts, maps, letters,
official proclamations, diaries, ship logs, company dictionaries,
travel journals, novels, and broadsides from various Beinecke Library
collections. [ca. 60 items]
Early March through early June 2007 - the librarian has emailed: " it
should still be in place through the first week of June".
