Just a quick comment to this discussion: The graphic design profession is in
constant discussion about the importance of practice versus theory in teaching
design. I'm putting together the syllabus for a class I will be teaching and
have been doing some reading. Visual Communication: From theory to practice by
Bladwin and Roberts, puts a heavy emphasis on theory and its relationship to
design practice, while Inside/Outside: From the Basics to the Practice of
Design by Malcom Grear essentially blows off theory as it is applied to graphic
design.
Just a comment about how this seems to be a constant disscussion.
