In the York Calendar, a Principal double feast.
This year's antiphonal response will be from the York Calendar. Now, this
makes me somewhat nervous: I am comfortable with the Sarum Use, although I
don't have all the service books. Nobody knows much about the Hereford Use,
so I could bluff my way through that one... But there are those on this
list who know much, much more about the York Use than I do. (And there are
those who really ought to take an interest, but appear not to: presumably
out of fear of excommunication - or worse!)
The York Use has four categories of feast:
Principal double feast.
Minor double feast.
Feast of nine lections [i.e. lessons - I don't know if this locution was
invented by the editor of the York Missal, W.G. Henderson, later Dean of
Carlisle, but I shall continue to employ it unless there are violent
objections.]
Feast of three lections.
