Book Bars Project Manager
£35,000 per annum for two years from 1 April 2007, with the possibility of
a third year to 31 March 2010
As a result of a successful bid to the Lottery’s Young People’s Fund, The
Reading Agency is looking for an experienced Project Manager to lead an
exciting new project to develop a network of 20 Book Bars for young people
in libraries and youth cafes within 4 English regions over the next 3
years.
Young people will be at the heart of the Book Bars project, helping to
design them, choose the stock and train the staff. Once up and running,
young people will volunteer as Book Waiters and in a variety of other
roles, gaining accreditation for their involvement.
We now need a Project Manager to lead the project, managing the planning
and delivery of a number of elements of the project, including the design
and branding of the Book Bars; the training programme for library staff;
the establishment of a Book Bar learning and innovation network and the
delivery of a dissemination and evaluation plan. In addition, the Project
Manager will be responsible for managing the relationships with a number
of key national and regional partners and for supporting library services
in their local implementations of the Book Bar model.
The Book Bars project is at the heart of the Fulfilling their Potential
programme, which aims to deliver an improved library and reading offer in
public libraries to 11-19 year olds. The Project Manager will work
closely with the Fulfilling their Potential manager to ensure linkages are
made with national policy developments.
This is an exciting national development, which offers the right person
the opportunity to be part of shaping an exciting new library experience
for, and with, young people. The post would be suitable for an
experienced professional with excellent project management skills and
knowledge of young people’s library needs.
Contract Details
This post is available full time for two years, from April 2007, with the
possibility of a third year to 31st March 2010. We hope to secure
additional funding to ensure the third year of the post is also full-
time. However, we cannot guarantee this at this stage.
The post will be based either in the worker’s home or within one of the
library services involved in the Book Bars project.
Timescale
The closing date for applications is Wednesday 31 January 2007.
Interviews will take place in Central London on Monday 12 February 2007.
