The Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine is holding a 3-Day Workshop on
How to Practice Evidence-Based Health Care at St. Anne's College, Oxford
26th - 28th March 2007
The workshop is intended to serve as an introduction to evidence-based
practice. It is aimed at clinicians and other health care professionals
(including those involved in the field of mental health) who wish to
gain knowledge of critical appraisal and experience in the practice of
evidence-based health care.
After the workshop, participants should be able to:
1. formulate answerable questions
2. search effectively for evidence
3. critically appraise evidence about treatment, prognosis, diagnosis
and aetiology for its validity and applicability
4. understand basic measures of efficacy such as numbers needed to
treat and likelihood ratios
5. understand the basics of decision analysis, guidelines and
cost-effectiveness analysis.
The workshop will be chaired by Prof. Paul Glasziou, Director of the
Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine and Editor of the Journal
Evidence-Based Medicine. Facilitators will include experts in
Evidence-Based Practice from different specialisms, including mental
health.
