I've noticed recently that increasingly large emails are being sent to the list. One came last night that was 14MBytes in size due to the attachment of an image file. Given that we have 1300 members that's an awful lot of data to put over the net even in these days of broadband.
Emails of this size should not be sent for a number of reasons:
- they overload mail boxes and some mail systems
- for users on slow links (e.g. members in developing states) they cannot easily be downloaded
- for some users they cost money especially if ISP access is costed per MByte downloaded
- they are actually unnecessary
Can I ask users to observe the following :
If you use Word or other attachments make sure that all images including logos are suitably compressed
If you wish to send out maps and directions - include a link to a map rather than the map.
Happy New Year
Rick
