Some W & AK Johnston archives are in the Manuscripts Division of the National Library of Scotland for the period up to 1931. These relate mostly to family papers, and sadly there are only a small number relating to the business. This also includes some Lizars material which they acquired in the mid 19th century. I do not know what happened to the archives in the 1950s.

The information from Ken Winch is most useful. As well as the maps he describes, the Bartholomew Archive does seem to have some 19th century material which seems to have formerly been owned by the Johnstons but we have not identified all of this yet. It is difficult to know if this was acquired when the Johnston firm was taken over, or if the items migrated over many years, as the Johnstons and Bartholomews were friends.
