This one-day conference of the Electronic Publishing Specialist Group will review a range of publishing technologies and methods that are successfully delivering products and services today -- and may be delivering new, valuable services tomorrow.

Publishing is one of those industries where many people become involved without first getting a chance to be exposed to insights into good practice or well-proven approaches. It is therefore a real privilege when speakers from leading commercial publishers, and those businesses that supply and serve the publishing industry, are prepared to offer us a "guided tour of the engine room", showing how the successful application of technology is working for them.

Come and hear speakers from companies handling a broad spread of information types including legal works, dictionaries, directories, journals, books and bibliographic publishing -- both on paper and online.

    Andie Naylor from LexisNexis
       describing current practice in epublishing and
       editorial workflows for legal information.

    Ken Moore from Oxford University Press
       examining the key issues with a new dictionary text
       content management system, a 'lite' version of the
       system used for the Oxford English Dictionary.

    Phil Caisley from BMJ Publishing Group
       (British Medical Journal)
       describing an XML based CMS system with a customisation engine,
       data modelling, campaign management and a tactical move to a
       strategic customer masterfile.

    Cristina Ashby from CABI (life sciences abstracts publisher)
       covering bibliographic publishing including abstracts databases;
       quality assurance; e-learning initiatives; strategies for
       developing products.

    Mark Bide from Rightscom
       introducing the strategic ACAP project (Automated Content
       Access Protocol) which provides for permissions information
       relating to access and re-use of all types of web content.

    Dan Penny from EPS (Electronic Publishing Services)
       sharing an industry-wide view of key publishing issues
       including search, XML, Print on Demand and community tools.

This event is not about technological stargazing: it's about how the innovations of the past are now bedding down, integrating into workflows, proving their worth and delivering value and quality to publishers and their customers.

Whether you work in the publishing industry or as a supplier to it, or are an industry-watcher or student, this event is for you!

There is an attendance fee of 25.00 pounds + VAT (29.38) for attendance at this event.  A buffet lunch and refreshments will be provided.
