CALL FOR NOMINATIONS
Disability Studies in Education
Junior and Senior Scholar Awards
Nominations are requested for the Junior and Senior Scholar Awards to be
given at the Seventh Annual Second City Disability Studies in Education
conference to be held April 7-9, 2007. Each year, these awards are
given to two scholars in the emerging field of disability studies in
education. The 2007 conference will be held in Chicago, Illinois, USA,
in conjunction with the American Educational Research Association
(AERA). The conference website can be found at www.nl.edu/dse. The
AERA website is at www.aera.net. This year's conference theme is
"Disability studies in education: Implications for practice?"
Since this year's conference represents an effort to expand
participation by international colleagues, the conference committee also
encourages international nominations for these awards.
The Senior Scholar Award is for a mid- or late-career scholar who has
contributed significantly to the field and/or its development. Past
awardees include: William Rhodes (2001), Susan Peters (2002), Lous
Heshusius (2003), Ellen Brantlinger (2005), and J. Kim Reid (2006).
Nominations should include letter(s) indicating the nominee's contact
information and affiliation, a description of the nominee's
accomplishments and contributions to the field of disability studies in
education, and relevant supporting documentation. The Senior Scholar
awardee will be honored at the Senior Scholar Award dinner on Saturday,
April 7, 2007 co-sponsored by Christchurch School of Education (New
Zealand) and National-Louis University (USA) and held at the School of
the Art Institute of Chicago. This event will include a disability art
plenary session, disability art exhibits, and an address by the Senior
Scholar Award winner.
The Junior Scholar Award is for an early-career scholar who has
contributed or demonstrates the potential for contributions to the
field. Past awardees include: Alicia Broderick (2002), Beth Ferri
(2003), David Connor (2005), and Jan Valle (2006). Nominations should
include letter(s) indicating the nominee's contact information and
affiliation, a description of the nominee's accomplishments and
contributions or potential contributions to the field of disability
studies in education, and relevant supporting documentation. The Junior
Scholar awardee will be honored at the Junior Scholar Award brunch on
Monday, April 9, 2007 at which the honoree will deliver an address.
