medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
There's no question that 'Bibiana', 'Vibiana', and 'Viviana' are all different spellings of the same name. But is the Vibiana of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles identical with the Bibiana venerated at Rome since at least the fifth century? I had thought that V. of LA was a separate "catacomb saint" discovered in the 1850s. See, e.g., the account here:
http://www.la-archdiocese.org/about/heritage/vibiana.html
Neither that account nor anything else I could find on the Archdiocese's website when I went looking there a couple of days ago equates this V. with the Bibiana of the church in Rome. Is she also celebrated liturgically on 2. December?
Best again,
John Dillon
