medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
On Tuesday, December 5, 2006, at 10:38 pm, being more than usually distracted, I said of Chrysanthus and Daria that they are in the (pseudo-)Hieronymian Martyrology under 29. October (as well as on three other days) and that this is also where they are in Florus of Lyon. That should have been 29. _November_ (the same day as Saturninus of Carthage, who had been buried in the same cemetery). Ado's basis for moving them to 1. December (in which he was followed by Usuard) was the Passio cited in his notice. This says (_Le martyrologe d'Adon_, edd. Dubois and Renaud [Paris: CNRS, 1984], p. 404), _Passi sunt autem die Kalendarum Decembrium_.
Best again,
John Dillon
